Top 5 Photo Spots in Prague

Prague stands out as one of the few cities in Europe that emerged from World War II with its medieval old town almost entirely intact. As you wander its cobblestoned streets and look to the castle lit up at night, it can often feel like you’ve been inserted into a fairy tale. Ask anyone who’s been and they’ll say “ohhhh Prague is lovvvvvelly”

The problem with this is, its influx of tourists, creating areas full of clichés and tacky souvenir shops. However early morning and late nights provide the best time to photograph this relatively compact medieval city.So where is good to take photographs in Prague. Here’s a list of the top 5 interesting scenic spots:

1. Charles Bridge

Walking along the Charles Bridge you’ll be pushed to find anyone who’s not a tourist. But getting up early for sunrise leaves the bridge practically empty (particularly on cold winter mornings). Not on the bridge but underneath the bridge gives a much better perspective, particularly if you manage to capture the bridge’s and castle’s reflection in the Vltava river.

2. The Old Town Hall Tower

One of Prague’s must see attractions is the Astronomical clock on the face of the tower. First installed in 1410, its the oldest working astronomical clock in the world. The 360 degree views from the top of the tower are pretty spectacular, but inside the tower lies the unusual elevator shaft and stairwell that allow you to create some fantastic abstract photographs.

3. Prague Castle & St. Vitus Cathedral

The interior of this Gothic style cathedral is great for some HDR shooting. Its the largest in the country and located inside Prague Castle ( Pražský hrad. Get in around the opening of 9.30am and skip the hordes of Asian tourists that will quickly follow suit.

4. Prague’s underground Metro system

Being a relatively cheap country, getting around the city is very reasonable. Even though the majority of Prague can be accessed on foot, getting the metro provides additional benefits: great photography. Every station is completely different with its own atmosphere, color, light, and character.

5. Letná park (Letenské sady)

This green space can be easily reached from the Old Town Square, and the almost 180-degree view stretches from Vitkov Hill through Old Town and across the bridges to Mala Strana and Petrin hill.
